How does QWO work?

Experts believe the enzymes in QWO break down the fibrous bands beneath the skin, redistribute the fat cells, and stimulate collagen production to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

What area(s) can be treated with QWO?

QWO is currently FDA-approved for the treatment of cellulite in the buttocks. During your consultation, you can discuss with your provider any other areas of concern.

How often can I get QWO injections?

The FDA has cleared QWO for three treatments. Each treatment can treat up to two areas with multiple injections across the areas. Treatments are separated by 21 days.

Are there any risks associated with QWO?

The common side effects of QWO injections are bruising at the injection sites, pain, areas of hardness, itching, redness, discoloration, swelling, and warmth in the treatment areas.

More serious side effects involve allergic reactions to collagenase. This can lead to anaphylaxis. This reaction can result in the person having trouble breathing, hives, low blood pressure, swelling in the face, chest pain, dizziness, or possible fainting. These side effects are rare, as those allergic to collagenase should not have QWO treatment.

Who is a good candidate for QWO?

Ideal candidates for QWO are healthy adult women who are bothered by the appearance of cellulite on their buttocks and elsewhere and are seeking a nonsurgical solution. You should not receive QWO if you are allergic to any collagenase or the ingredients in QWO, or have an active infection in the treatment area.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my QWO Treatment?

There isn’t any preparation necessary before having a QWO treatment at the Bougainvillea Clinique. You will have some soreness across the treated areas afterwards, but it is manageable with over-the-counter pain medication, so you won’t need to make any plans for recovery.

When will I see my results?

Visible results may be achieved in 10 weeks. For best results, we suggest doing a series of 3 treatments about 21 days apart.

How long will my results last from QWO last?

QWO is made from collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes. It smooths dimpling on the buttocks from cellulite by releasing the septae, the collagen bands that tether the skin to the muscle. As fat is deposited between the skin and the muscle, the telltale dimples of cellulite form due to the septae tightening the skin to the muscle between the pockets of fat.

QWO loosens the septae chemically. These are thought to be permanent changes in the connective bands creating the dimpling, but QWO is a new product, so there are not any long-term studies to know if the septae tighten again or not. Initial data supports longevity of at least a few years for the improved appearance of the patient’s cellulite.

Is it safe to go into the sun after getting QWO?

Patients need to avoid excessive sun exposure during their duration of the QWO treatment. This should extend for two months after the final treatment session. Sun exposure on the treated areas can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
