Preparing for Breast Augmentation
Florida breast surgeon, our surgeon has performed over 3500 breast augmentations and he has refined the breast augmentation procedure so that your preparations are actually very minimal. However, there are some things you can do to make your procedure, recovery, and results as good as possible.
Plan Ahead
Stress can negatively impact your healing, so it’s best to remove or reduce stress during the recovery period. Plan your procedure so that you have as few commitments as possible while you are healing. If you have kids, pets, or others who depend on you for care, make arrangements for them to be taken care of so you can focus on your recovery. Take adequate time off work.
Although many patients feel ready to go back to work a day or two after the procedure, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), women go back to work an average of seven days after their procedure, so you should count on that amount of time. If you get better early, then you can either go back early or take the extra days as “me-time” to enjoy what you’ve done for yourself.
Be prepared
Most women report that the discomfort of breast implant surgery was much less than they expected, and some even report going out for dinner the night after their procedure, but it’s better to be ready. It is often possible to go back to work within a day or two after your procedure, but in general we recommend you take 3-5 days to relax and rest. In addition to taking time off work and reducing stress, you might make sure you’re ready in case things do not go as well as we would all like. Have extra pillows on hand for comfort during the period where you want to keep your body elevated. Have music, movies, and books all available to keep you distracted. Rearrange the kitchen and bathroom so that you won’t have to reach up or bend down for items you expect to need during your recovery. Most likely, this will prove to be much ado about nothing, but on the off chance you do experience significant discomfort during your recovery, you’ll be glad you were ready.
A Dose of Common Sense
We will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare for the breast enlargement procedure. Most of it is common sense.
Make sure you inform of us of any medical conditions you forgot or have come up since your consultation. We need to know about any and all medications you are taking–even over-the-counter medications–so we can adjust your procedure accordingly. Quit smoking at least a month before your surgery, and quitting smoking altogether can improve the quality of your long term results and of course your health in general. Get lots of rest, drink plenty of fluids, and don’t worry about the procedure. When you are here, we will treat you like family.
We do everything possible to help prepare you for your procedure so that your recovery is as quick and painless as possible, and to ensure the best possible results.
